Buchanan County, Virginia is located in the Cumberland Plateau of Southwest Virginia. We welcome visitors throughout the year to experience our rolling countryside’s abundance of natural beauty. We have a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities which include: birding and wildlife watching, hunting, fishing, bicycling, four-wheel riding, whitewater kayaking, rafting, hiking and annual festivals. Just west of Grundy is Breaks Interstate Park, “The Grand Canyon of the South,” offering a multitude of recreational activities year round. Take a journey along the Virginia Coal Heritage Trail or the Artisan Trail which run through the county; or stop by one of our beautiful county parks which are ideal for picnics, family reunions or just a relaxing visit.
