About Hatch Accelerator: CO.STARTERS Cohort 05 (10 Sessions)

Hatch Accelerator was launched in 2022 by the UVA Wise team with support from Opportunity SWVA as a holding space for regional startup programming. With initial funding by GO Virginia and Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission the vision for this initiative is to accelerate growing and scaling startups in Southwest Virginia. While on the path to support scaling startups, it is crucial to continue cultivating startup ideas of all types.

The globally recognized and repeatedly proven CO.STARTERS program has been adopted by the UVA Wise team to empower early-stage entrepreneurs across the region. The CO.STARTERS curriculum is approved by DHCD and has been utilized by other state agencies and nonprofits across the Commonwealth. Working together with Opportunity SWVA partners, 4 cohorts have been completed to date. The program’s goal is to support participants in refining their ideas, validating their business models, and preparing to enter the market successfully. Localities and community development organizations are invited to partner in building a truly regional cohort of budding entrepreneurs.

CO.STARTERS is a proven program curriculum structured around 10 weekly sessions, each building foundational knowledge for business creation. Some topics include customer discovery, market fit, value proposition, revenue streams, and pitching skills. Each session combines interactive learning with real-world application, equipping participants to progress systematically from idea to launch.

  • Session 1 (In-person) Oxbow Center in St Paul, VA
  • Sessions 2-9 (virtual)
  • Session 10 (In-person pitch night + celebration)

Participant cost is $150 *(Some scholarship opportunities available)

Facilitation and Peer Collaboration

Over the course of the program participants will be led by a trained CO.STARTERS facilitator with startup experience. Industry experts and local business leaders will also be introduced to participants through guest speaking and direct connections. Weekly mentorship sessions and peer collaboration during sessions foster a supportive environment, helping participants refine their ideas and address challenges unique to their startups. Locality-based mentors can provide guidance tailored to specific community needs.
