The Top 5 Keys to Entrepreneurial Success

Written by My SWVA Opportunity Intern, Hannah McNew

Many people value success as an array of different things. For most, obtaining success is not just making sure that the job is done correctly. There is much more to it than that! The means of achieving success varies from person to person. In order to have a successful business, one must come up with their own definition. My SWVA Opportunity Cup participants were asked what they think are the keys to success. Here are the top 5 answers:

1) It’s multiple ingredients
“It’s not just one ingredient. Of course, it’s very hard work. You have a level of financial stability. You have to be willing to learn and seek advice from others. You’ve gotta have that desire to work 80 hours a week so you don’t have to work a 40-hour week job. Then, the final thing is you gotta have a little luck.”
-Eva Beaule, Adventure Mendota

2) Communication and passion
“Why you’re doing it is the most important–the passion behind your success, and at the same time, keeping clear communication throughout the process.”
-Nicole Dyer, White Birch Juice Company

3) Strong work ethic and consistency
“A lot of hard work, a lot of desire, being consistent, and a little bit of luck.”
-Jill and Brett Wolfe, Wolfe’s BBQ Restaurant & Catering

4) Loving what you do
“I think probably loving what you do. If you don’t love it, you’re not going to want to do it, and you’re not going to be successful.”
-Katherine Hayton, Sweet Works

5) Having a support team
“Support from your business partners.”
-Toni Warren, Warren Cleaning and Restoration
